According to the Smithsonian Institution, Chamberlain’s Pain Balm was used for Rheumatism, neuralgia, sciatica, lame back, lumbago, gout, sprains, swellings and lameness, cuts, bruises, wounds and lacerations, burns and scalds, chilblains, frostbites, sore throat, quinsy, glandular swellings, headache, toothache, backache, soreness of chest, pain in side, pain in back, cramp in muscle and all deep-seated and muscular pains.

The Zemo product line was released by E.W. Rose company in 1903, in Harrisburg, Ilinois. They moved to Saint Louis, Missouri in 1905, and Cleveland, Ohio in 1915. Zemo was used for all sorts of treaments including sore throat, after shave, dry scalp, bug stings, poison ivy, eczema, ear aches.

Originally invented by Lydia Estes Pinkham (February 9, 1819 – May 17, 1883). It has existed in various formulas over the years. During the 1800’s and first half of the 20th century, many remedies were marketed in America with very loose medical standards at the time. Much controversy exists about whether Pinkham’s medicine was actually effective. But it still exists to this day as Lydia Pinkham’s Herbal Supplement.
